The small ideas that make big things happen

Interview with Emma.K

Emma you are 11 years old and the youngest volunteer in the association. What do you do to help the children of Mfangano ?
"My uncle Tarik made a cardboard box to collect pennies. Whenever someone says a bad word they must put ten centimes into it. At first it was for a joke but then we carried on doing it."

When did you start this collection ?
"The first of August 2010."

How much have you collected ?
"So far I have 15 euros. I would like to reach 20 euros in order to buy uniforms for 4 pupils."
Why do you want to help the pupils ?

"When one knows that here children have all they want and yet want more and that in Africa they have nothing, I say to myself that it is necessary to help them."

And for you school is important ?
"Yes because one learns lots of things. And after leaving school we can find a job, a house, and feed ourselves."

What would you like to say to those people who wish to participate ?
"It is very good because the greater the number of participants, the more money we can raise and the more we can do to help the children and the schools."

And your message to the children of Mfangano ?
"Have courage because soon you will have more equipment for you and your school."
